Tired Horses Theatre | New Works. Timeless Truths.
Our mission and values
We produce bold new plays with a political edge and reimagined classics that still reflect the complexities of our world. We believe every story should be a mirror to society; exploring who we are and challenging us to be better. Join us for theatre that unsettles, inspires, and demands action.
Theatre into action.
At Tired Horses, we believe the final act of any play doesn’t happen on stage—it happens in the lives of our audience after the curtain falls. Action isn't always a protest; sometimes the most radical action is simply choosing to see the world through a different lens or rediscovering our shared humanity in a 100-year-old joke.
We call our mission Theatre into Action because we reject the idea of the "passive spectator." For us, the stage is more than a place for stories; it is a rehearsal for reality. We choose our repertoire, from sharp political premieres to the enduring mirrors of the classics, because these stories demand a response.
Theatre into Action means:
Empathy as a Catalyst: We don't just want you to feel for a character; we want that feeling to sharpen your resolve to change the conditions that created their struggle.
The Classics as Current Events: We perform the masters not to look backward, but to understand the mechanics of our current world. By seeing ourselves in the past, we gain the tools to fix our future.
Dialogue over Monologue: Our productions are the start of a conversation. We aim to unsettle the comfortable and inspire the weary, transforming the energy of a performance into the momentum of social and personal change.
We don’t just want you to watch. We want you to witness, to wonder, and then - to act!
Bold New writing
At Tired Horses Theatre, we view theatre as a powerful vehicle—a tool with which to critically examine ourselves and the society we inhabit.
Our mission is to create works that interrogate our world, challenging systems and behaviours while raising social consciousness on crucial, often-neglected issues. We believe that entertainment and enlightenment can coexist, and we are committed to delivering a fun, engaging, and inspiring theatrical experience.
Ultimately, we use theatre to nurture positive social change, spark vital conversations, and empower our audiences to question, reflect, and act.
Revitalising classics
At Tired Horses Theatre, we honour the rich history of our art form by breathing new life into the classics. Many of our societal afflictions and triumphs are as old as civilisation itself, and that great works of the past hold enduring truths that resonate with the present.
By exploring these timeless narratives through a modern lens, we offer our audiences a window into the past while gazing into the present. Our productions and events are a homage to earlier civilizations, drawing parallels between their struggles and our own. Through these connections, we hope to remind you that in our shared history, the continued struggle for compassion, peace, and justice remains a journey we must overcome together.
Inclusion and equality
Tired Horses Theatre aims to create a space where everyone feels a sense of belonging, to ensure that we are collaborative, thoughtful, and inclusive. We are keen to offer opportunity to all artists no matter their background or status.
We seek to embody kindness and include actively, to create a place where anyone can belong. We check-in and make time for others, listening to learn and build equitable relationships based on empathy, trust and respect.
Through our work on stage, inclusive practices and our community projects, we hope to positively contribute to the wellbeing, health and happiness of all who engage with us — artists, audiences, and participants.
